Released: 21 Mar 2011

Saturday 26th March - 12 noon to 7pm
Come and celebrate the completion of the Splash Point Regeneration Scheme and opening of Worthing’s brand new Sand Sports Courts on Saturday 26 March.  Free fun and entertainment for all the family from 12noon until 7pm, ending with the first reading of the first ‘Riot Act’ for 100 years.

The day kicks off at noon with the opening of the new sand sports courts on Beach House Grounds.  There will be demonstrations and taster sessions of a range of sand sports and all age groups will be invited to have a go or just enjoy watching.

People are already enjoying Splash Point’s new look, especially the misty water feature that creates magical rainbows.

Children can have a go at making rubbings of the Splash Point boulder engravings, do chalk drawings on the slate paving and meet the artists at the arts and drawing event at 2pm.

There will be a whole range of live entertainment throughout the day including dancing, music, theatre and poetry reading.  At 6.30pm there’s a children’s lantern parade from the Pier to Splash Point.

Cabinet member for regeneration, Bryan Turner said: "Splash Point looks amazing now and is already popular, everyone loves the water feature, the boulders and the seats – it’s all lovely.  It may have taken longer then we expected, but it was worth the wait for such a great result."

If you would like to learn more about the fascinating history of this part of Worthing’s seafront then come along and discover some of Worthing’s most bizarre and unexpected folklore and fact.
