Pavilion Theatre gets new roof

Pavilion Theatre gets new roof

17th June 2011

Work has started this week to replace Worthing's Pavilion Theatre old roof with a brand new zinc one at a cost of £600,000.

Scaffolding is being erected this week on the Grade II listed building which dates back to 1926. The new roof is designed to last between 60-80 years and will match the existing and incorporate integral rain water drainage and replicate the unique window details where the original is beyond repair.

The works are scheduled to be completed at the end of November this year and will be carried out with minimum disruption to theatre goers and any of the programmed summer events.

The Pavilion Theatre was designed by Stanley Adshead who took inspiration from his visits to Rome, Nice, Vienna and Paris so that there should be nothing lacking in Worthing's Pavilion and was opened in 1926.  The last major renovation was in 1981/82 which included the auditorium.
