Local children paint Worthing images on 28 metres of pool hoarding
29th July 2011
150 youngsters will pick up paint brushes and join in with a massive painting session to create a 28metre mural on the hoarding surrounding Worthing’s new pool building site.
Taking inspiration from Worthing’s crest and motto “From the land fullness and from the sea health” the children, aged from 2 upwards, will create over two days (weather permitting) a really unique representation of Worthing’s seaside past and present.
The mural will include references too to Worthing’s key events and fruit and vegetable production all within the setting of where the iconic design of the new pool is being built!
The children will be supervised in one hour slots to paint-in a part of the pre-drawn outline which will be videoed and uploaded onto YouTube.
Community arts project leader, Nadia Chalk, says: “It is a great opportunity for the community to work together creatively to improve their surroundings. Everybody involved has been delighted to be part of this free family event. It will be very rewarding for them to see their artwork in a public place”
Local companies, including Worthing Council, Creative Waves led by project leader Nadia Chalk, Morgan Sindall (pool developers), Worthing Town Centre Initiative, and Worthing Arts Council have all supported the art project.
The mural will remain in place until the new pool is completed in summer 2013.
