This weekend - be there!

Come to Worthing this weekend for Worthing’s 4th International Birdman Competition.

The fun starts at 11.35am this Saturday (13th) through to 1pm with the serious flyers – Condors and Leonardo’s – who ‘fly’ off the pier in their magnificent flying machines sporting wingspans up to 30 feet.  And in a first for the UK aviators will be test flying a new Vulcan class boasting a wingspan of up to 40 feet!

But Sunday (14th) is ‘funday’ when from 12 noon to 2pm the zany ‘fun’ flyers called ‘Kingfishers‘ launch themselves off the top of the 35 foot platform in the hope they can stay in the air for a few minutes (normally seconds!) before plunging into the water.  This rare breed of flyer raises lots of money for local charities.

After the fun flyers the Condor and Leonardo aviators then take to the skies for their 2nd attempt to fly over 100m and scoop the £10,000 jackpot prize!

After the flying there’s great family entertainment when freestyle jet ski display team – Xtreme Action - seen at locations such as Thorpe Park and Alton Towers power through the water with their amazing stunts.  There‘s lots more entertainment too from the Beach Stage over the whole weekend with “Shark Tale” showing on the big screen on Saturday.

This free event attracts crowds of 10K plus is organised by Sharon Clarke of Worthing Town Centre Initiative, supported by Worthing council and costs over £60K to run.
