It's official Worthing’s new £17.5m pool is coming!

Yes the new pool for Worthing becomes reality as the rigs move in to start piling for the iconic new pool. The new pool, designed by award winning London architects Wilkinson Eyre and being built by contractors Morgan Sindall, will replace the aging but much loved 1960’s Aquarena pool which was considered iconic too in its day!

The pool, costing £17.5m to build boasts a six lane 25 metre competition pool, a combined learner/diving pool with 2 one and 1 three metre boards, an indoor leisure pool with flume and play facilities, an outdoor paddling pool, a 100 station health and fitness centre, café and flexible studio space for other activities.  Both the learner/diving pool and 25m pool have movable floors which allows flexibility for water polo and swimming lessons.

Paul Yallop, Leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: “Worthing council has been talking about a new swimming pool for nearly two decades. When I was first elected in 2006 I promised to do all I could to bring forward major regeneration. I am really pleased to finally see these long promised facilities being built. When they are complete we will have one of the best leisure centres on the South Coast.  This should bring major benefits to the local economy.

”David Sershall, Area Director for Morgan Sindall, building the pool for the council: adds:  “We are looking forward to using our expertise in leisure facilities to deliver a first class resource for Worthing Borough Council and the residents of Worthing. The new pool has a central role to play in the future of the town and its stunning design will be a focal point of the seafront, drawing visitors and helping showcase all that Worthing has to offer.”
