Worthings calendar of events is wide and varied and partuclarly well known for some of its major events.....
The Worthing International Birdman Competition
Taking place on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th August 2013, the Birdman is a flight competition for human powered flying machines held each summer from the Pier in Worthing.
Many flyers take part in the Birdman Competition to raise money for charities, others design complex machines to aim for the distance prizes. A substantial prize of £10,000 is offered for the furthest flight should a birdman achieve over a 100 metre distance.
The town comes alive during the Worthing Festival.....
The Worthing Lions Festival begins on Wednesday 17th July with the arrival of the Promenade Fun Fair. The Splash FM Garden Party Concert will be on Saturday 20th July in Steyne Garden.
The main weekend of the festival will be Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th July featuring all the regular favourites; fireworks, Fire Station Open Day, the Worthing Bus Rally and the American Hot Rod and Custom Car Show. The addition of various markets and a host of additional events makes the festival fortnight fun for everyone.
Worthing Bowls.......Worthing is the home of Bowls
Bowls England has its head quarters here while some of the finest greens in the country play host to International Competitions.
This years season starts on 6th July with the International Blind Bowls Association, World Bowls Championships taking place in Beach House Park, Worthing.
The Bowls England Men's and Mixed National Championships starts on 10th August and runs for 2 weeks. Watch the masters of the game in action. Whether you're a non-player, beginner or pro you won't be able to help get drawn into the excitement of the game where teams will be proudly representing counties from across the UK.
The Worthing Unified Open Bowls Tournament follows on from the Championships starting on 26th August. This is a single integrated tournament which replaced The Ladies Open and The Mens Open Bowls Tournaments. Upholding Bowls England's unified concept that bowls is a sport of skill and strategy - not dependant on physical strength.
